As an avid couponer I’ve learned that one way to save the most money is to stockpile when there is a good deal. The only way to do this effectively is to purchase a large number of inserts each week. You never know from week to week what coupons will come in the inserts and when a deal at the store will come along. I purchase 10 sets a week so I have the ability to stockpile when a good deal comes along.
When you purchase as many coupons as I do the need for organization is a must. You don’t want the inserts to take over your home, so it’s important to find a way that works for you. Here are a few suggestions to help you find a way you can organize your coupons and still have the ability to find them when you’re ready to go shopping.
- Binder
The very first organizing method I used when I started couponing was the binder. I purchased one set a week and it worked very well. Coupons I used a 3 inch 3 ring binder and purchased the clear sheets for baseball cards. Now they have clear sheets specifically for coupons which is better because the pockets are bigger so the coupons fit without folding them.
I would only shop at one store mostly, so I organized my coupons by the route of the store. That worked well until I started shopping at another store and was missing out on deals because of the way my binder was organized. After that trip I changed it to where I organized them by category. I also put dividers in with a tab that stated what that category was in the binder. I had cleaning, baby, personal care, pet, household, food, and other. You can call these categories what work for you and what you plan to use the most. The most important thing is to organize your binder in a way that works for you.
- Photo Album
If you go to a store like Walmart you’ll find small photo albums that are soft covered and easy to share with others. With this option it’s best to get a bag of some sort to carry these in. One option is to get a bag that’s designed for sewing items. They’re approximately 6 inches high and 12 inches wide and have dividers on the inside. Most of the time the inside is made of material and the dividers come out or are designed to be moved to where you need them.
When you’re organizing your coupons in the photo albums you can put them in by category or you can put them in by insert. If you search online for deals, organizing them by insert may be the best way to go. You can place a note inside the cover that says which insert is in the album which will make it easier when you’re search for coupons. This option is best used when you have multiple sets of inserts. The albums will allow for quite a few coupons in one page which makes it ideal for those coupons that you have more than one of.
- Compartment Shelves
One last option to consider would be to use compartment shelves. This item looks like a bookcase with dividers in it. With this option you would not clip your coupons until you need them. You would place all of the inserts for the week together in one compartment and use a sticky note to label the date of those inserts. This will help when you need to search for a specific date to find the coupons. With this option you’ll save time buy not clipping the coupons until you need them which will prevent you from wasting time on those that you don’t need or want. You’ll want to go through the inserts each month removing those that have expired so you have room for the new ones you’ll receive.
Coupons can take over your home quickly and easily if you allow it to happen. When you use one of these options you’ll find your home will be cleaner and you’ll be able to find the coupons you need quickly. The way you organize your coupons will need to be based on the room you have and the way you think when it comes to organization and coupons. The most important thing to remember is organizing your coupons will help you to become more efficient in your couponing adventure.
